MIT Moves Away From Massive Lecture Halls

The New York Times is reporting on MIT's migration away from large lectures as many colleges and universities have.

Attendance at these lectures often falls to 50 percent by the end of the semester. TEAL (Technology Enhanced Active Learning) gives the students a more hands on approach and may signal the death of the massive lecture hall synonymous with achieving a bachelors of science.

I agree with this. Whats the use of having a class so big that the prof neither knows all their students nor grades their paper(TA does that), the students can always see or hear the prof or even actually ask questions to the prof.

This sounds like a good plan. If they can make it virtual, some student wont have to travel an hour to attend classes.

This is a bad idea. Now where would students go to take their morning or afternoon siesta? :)
